Hybrid Pen Blanks

Hybrid Pen Blanks

The artistic journey of Pen Making is just as rewarding as the final product outcome when turning unique pen blanks.

Pen blanks come in a variety of materials from exotic woods to acrylics and resins. Some are a mixture of two materials or hybrids like the orange and red resin blanks with mini pine cones embedded in them shown in this picture - column 1, row 5 & column 2, row 3.

Blanks with combined materials are prone to gaps and imperfections. When turning pen barrels from unique pen blanks, I prepare for the challenge by turning at a slower RPM on the lathe while using special fillers as necessary to ensure a smooth barrel. These blanks are opportunities to showcase my creativity and wood turning skills with the result being a stunning, one-of-a-kind pen for that special person. ★
